Why We Started Vestlet

When I started my investment career, I spent several thousand dollars on books and tapes.  I had (or thought I had) a very general knowledge of Real Estate Investing.  I was armed with the theories but had no idea where to start finding investment opportunities.  I soon became frustrated and began to wonder why I was failing.  I soon realized that I had the knowledge but did not know where to look for the deals.
My problem was that I had given my money to the “Real Estate Evangelists”. 

The Evangelists taught me the theories but could not show me the deals.  I compare it to the “Deer Hunting Theory”.  As simple as it sounds, let’s say some fast talking “Hunter” from Colorado, or Florida comes to Atlanta and puts on a Deer Hunting Seminar.  He shows a lot of pictures of the trophies he has harvested and promises you if you follow his techniques you too will acquire a room full of trophy heads.  This so called “Expert Hunter” sold you a wealth of knowledge, and all the supplies and equipment you need to deer hunt.  At the end of the seminar, you were excited and armed with the knowledge and equipment to start you deer hunting career.  Next thing you know, you are standing in the parking lot saying “Where are the Deer?”  Your instructor has gone home – he taught you what to do but did not show you where the deer were hanging out.  Matter of fact he did not even know the local laws regarding Deer Hunting.
